Prostate Biopsy Instructions

IMPORTANT: ALL BLOOD THINNERS MUST BE STOPPED FIVE DAYS BEFORE YOUR BIOPSY.  THIS INCLUDES ASPRIN, NSAIDS (ADVIL, MOTRIN) WARFARIN, COUMADIN, PLAVIX.  PLEASE CONTACT THE DOCTOR THAT PRESCRIBED THE BLOOD THINNERS.

  1. Take ONE of the antibiotic tablets prescribed 1-2 hours prior to your appointment.
  2. Purchase a “Fleets” enema or a similar plain disposable enema. Give the enema to yourself 1-2 hours prior to your appointment
  3. Make sure you eat something before your appointment. DO NOT come fasting.
  4. Make sure you are off blood thinners starting five days prior to your appointment (examples above)
  5. Make plans to take it easy the rest of the day.
  6. Take your second antibiotic tablet the day after you have had your biopsy.

Your Biopsy results should be back to our office within four business days.  If you have not heard from us within four business days, please call us.

Please note that that Pathology Lab will be billing your insurance for services rendered.
