General Surgery Instructions

Avoid blood thinners, including: Coumadin (warfarin), Eliquis, Pradaxa, Aspirin, motrin, aleve, other NSAIDS and Plavix before for 5 days prior to surgery.

  • The hospital or surgical center will contact you the night prior, to tell you what time to arrive at the facility (usually 1-2 hours prior to the scheduled surgery start time). They usually call between 4-7:00 pm.
  • Do not eat or drink after midnight the night prior to surgery.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing, please remove any body piercings, and  if you wear contact lenses, please bring your glasses.
  • If you are going to be discharged from the hospital after surgery, you will be allowed to go home when you are awake and alert, you will not be allowed to drive yourself home, so make arrangements for someone to take you home.
